REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

1. How fast should my internet connection be?

Ideally, your internet connection should be at least 100 kbps upload speed. (Upload is the speed at which you send information to the web). Any broadband connection in a Western country should easily exceed this. If you have a dial-up or ISDN connection, you can still take online classes with us, but these will include only voice and documents, not video.

2. What equipment do I need?

To hear your teacher, you need a headset (speakers are also possbile but they sometimes give an echo or interference). To talk to your teacher, you need a microphone (it can be part of your headset or not). A webcam allows your teacher to see you, but this is not strictly necessary. All teachers here have webcams, so unless there are technical issues on your end, you can always see your teacher.

3. Do I need a webcam?

No. A webcam is optional. If you have one, your teacher can see you. If you do not have one, the teacher cannot see you, but you may be able to see your teacher if you have a cable or DSL internet connection.
